The City of Brotherly Love offers tons to see and do and get this, it’s FREE. That’s right you heard it right it’s FREE.
Start your day by visiting Independence Visitor Center. The center has loads of City Tour information. Walk through the Creation of a Nation exhibitions and The Roots of the Underground Railroad exhibition for some great historical facts. Make sure to stop by the Fun Zone to dress up in Colonia Era clothing and pose for a picture. Before exiting the building make sure to get your free ticket to Independence Hall as tickets are required for admission. Arrive early as tickets are often gone by 1pm during the busy season.
Next stop is The Liberty Bell, Located directly across the street from the Independence Visitor Center. Be prepared to go through a security screening at the main entrance. The Liberty Bell is known as the worlds most famous symbol of freedom. As you make your way to the Liberty Bell, you will learn some interesting facts and the myths surrounding the bell.
Directly across the street from The Liberty Bell is Independence Hall. Check your tickets to see what time your scheduled tour begins. Make sure to arrive one hour prior to your guided tour as you will have to go through security screening. National Park rangers will guide you on your tour. Have your cameras handy as you will see the original chair where George Washington sat in and the original inkstand used to sign the Declaration of Independence. You’ll make your way over to the display of the original draft of the Constitution.
By this time the kids are ready to burn off some energy so stroll on over to Signers’ Garden. Located across from Independence Hall, children can learn military drills along with some marching and musket skills.
Grab a bit to eat at the oldest market in America, Reading Terminal Market. The market is filled with restaurants, bakeries, fresh produce, and so much more. Head over to Kamal’s Middle Eastern Specialty for a variety of Middle Eastern halal food as well as some amazing smoothies. If Indian-Pakistani food is more your taste then make your way to Nanee’s Kitchen. They sell gluten-free, vegan, and Halal meat dishes. Be sure to pick up some cookies at the Famous 4th Street Cookie Company.
Don’t miss your prayers, head over to the United Muslim Masjid located at 810 South 15th Street.
